SMOKE DETECTORS
Image for smoke detectors
Smoke detectors often have a radioactive ion in them, and can be considered hazardous waste. Tippecanoe County households can bring hazardous waste to the Household Hazardous Waste Disposal at the Transfer Station on North 9th Street. This service is free. Businesses with smoke detectors to dispose of should contact the smoke detector manufacterer to see if they have a mail-in program for disposal. If they do not, large volumes of smoke detectors can be disposed of safely with Curie Environmental.
